The village of Navacelles |
||
![]() Navacelles is a small village typical of the upper Gard, located at the junction of the Cévennes, the Ardèche and the Rhône valley, near the villages of : Brouzet-les-Alès (3 km), Servas (3.5 km), Bouquet (4.5 km) and les Fumades-les-Bains (3 km). Sprawling at the bottom of the Mont-Bouquet, it opens onto a vast plain surrounded by the mounts of Ardèche (North) and the Cévennes (West). Nature trails encourage walks in the middle of garrigue, which ground is covered with herbs and plants typical of Southern France (thyme, spike lavender, savory, etc.), discovering the Mont-Bouquet massif, a place listed in Natura 2000 (European network for the protection of biodiversity). This massif hosts a rich flora (white oaks, live oaks, junipers, strawberry trees, turpentine trees, etc.) and shelters many small and big mammals (foxes, stone martens, genets, red squirrels, badgers, wild boars, deers, etc.) as well as many birds (including notably: blackbirds, jays, ravens, and the wonderful Bonelli eagle, legally protected species). A vast cultivated plain stretches towards the West, bordered by the hills which overhang the course of the river Alauzène. Towards the East and South begin the wooded dales of the Mont Bouquet. |
